Question

Why can't planes fly in the mesosphere ?

Open in App
Solution

Mesosphere

  1. It is a layer of Earth's atmosphere directly above the stratosphere and below the thermosphere.
  2. The temperature decreases with height throughout the mesosphere
  3. The position of mesosphere is about 50km to 85km.
  4. As you go higher in the atmosphere, the number of air particles found decreases and hence density also decreases.
  5. Airplanes can't fly above 50km because the air density is very less and this density is not sufficient to lift the airplane.

Therefore, planes can't fly in mesosphere
