Question

Why can't resources keep up with the rising population? Give two reasons.

Solution

Resources cannot keep up with the rising population because of the following reasons:

(a) Population increases geometrically, while food production increases arithmetically. Thus, in the long run, there will be limited supply of food to serve the growing population.
(b) Natural resources like land and water can cater to the needs of a substantial population. However, for the ever-increasing population, land and water will also be limited.
