Question

why cant u use calcium with dil sulphuric acid to prepare hydrogen in labrotory method

Open in App
Solution

Calcium and sulfuric acid certainly DO give off hydrogen gas:

Ca + H2SO4 = CaSO4 + H2(g)

ΔG(20C) = -631.5kJ (negative, so the reaction runs)

ΔH(20C) = -619.9kJ (negative, so the reaction is exothermic – very exothermic!)
