Question

Why carbon is the central atom in CH3Cl instead of Cl as it is more electronegative than carbon and also has more electrons in its valance shell ?

Open in App
Solution

The most covalent character atom will be the central atom in a molecule.
. In carbon there are 4 electrons. So it can share electrons. The covalent character is more.
Cl have more valence electons in the shell but its sharing and covalent property is less.

Therefore C is the central atom in CH3Cl.
