Question

why carboxylic acid do not change the colour of potassium permanganate?

Open in App
Solution

Carboxylic acids do not change the colour of potassium permanganate as they can't be oxidised. Carboxylic acid is the highest oxidised form of an organic compound and it cannot be oxidised further as it doesn't have a hydrogen atom on the carbon atom to which the OH group is attached.
