Why cesium chloride is more stable than sodium chloride?

Open in App
Solution

There is a Correction .. That is What you said is Incorrect. NaCl Is more stable than CsCl

As we know that ionic compounds are more stable than covalent compounds.

According to Fajan’s Rules, smaller the cation size larger will be the polarising power of the cation,so higher the ability of cation to distort the anion, which in turn increases the ionic nature nature of the compound by increasing the capacity to hold closely.

as in NaCl and CsCl ,anion Cl is common we need to look into cation only

as Na+ size is smaller than Cs+ ,Na+ compounds are more stable than Cs+ compounds

so NaCl is more stable than CsCl
