Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
At carbon 3 in chlorophyll a methyl group is present while in chlorophyll b aldehydic group is present due to which chlorophyll b becomes more polar than chlorophyll a. Therefore chlorophyll a is more soluble in non polar solvent like petroleum ether and chlorophyll b is more soluble in polar solvent like methyl alcohol.
