Question

why constant boiling mixtures behave like a single component when subjected to distillation?

Open in App
Solution

The mixtures which have a definite components and boils at a constant temperature without dissociation are called as azeotropic mixtues. Hence when the constant boiling mixtures are distilled, they would have same boiling temperature and condensation of vapours will also have the same compositions. Hence they can not be separated by the distillation. Distillation is a process which is done to separate the mixtures which have different boiling points.
