Why could you not use an elastic measuring tape to measure distance? What would be some of the problems you would meet in telling someone about a distance you measured with an elastic tape?

Since the tape is stretchable, it will show different measurement for same lengths. Therefore we cannot use it as measuring tape. Also, if we measure with an elastic tape, we should know how much the tape has been stretched, which is difficult to measure. Thus, it leads to incorrect measurements.

So in order to measure distances, we can use a measuring tape, metre rod, scale etc.
