Question

Why covalent compounds have low melting point?

Open in App
Solution

Covalent bonds are relatively weak bonds and they are weaker than ionic bond.
Covalent compounds have weak inter-molecular forces of attraction between the molecules. Thus less energy is required to break the force of bonding.
Therefore covalent compounds have low melting point.
