Question

why cycus is called living fossil?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student

Cycas belongs to family- Cycadaceae.
Members of these family existed years ago. Due to climate change, all species died but only one member ie Cycas adapted to climatic condition by reducing their overall size to better adapt to drier environment and make a unique place in evolution of seed plants.
Thats why Cycads are considered living (as still live) fossil (representable member of Cycadaceae)
