Question

Why cytokinin is not known as photophillic hormone ?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Cytokinin is hormone which promotes mitosis and delays senescence in leaf tissues. In leaves which are undergoing senescence, it brings down the respiration rate, as well as it retards the degradation of chlorophyll along with enhancing the rate of chlorophyll synthesis. Also, in the C3 pathway, it increases the rate of metabolic activities. Since, C3 or calvin cycle is a light independent cycle and cytokinin is involved in it, therefore it is not known to be photophillic hormone.

Regards.
