Question

Why DC current is not used in homes?

Open in App
Solution

AC current

  1. It is the flow of charge, which changes its direction periodically, and the voltage level turns along with the AC current.
  2. It is used to transfer power to places where humans live.

DC current

  1. It is the one-dimensional flow of electric charge.
  2. Used in charging of batteries, motors, etc.

DC current is not used in homes because:

  1. If we got into a shock, it is more troublesome to escape if it is DC as the voltage does not exceed zero. Muscles contract with steady force in the case of DC current.
  2. With the help of a transformer, AC can be easily stepped up or down, but this is not possible in the case of DC current.
  3. DC current cannot be used in long circuits as it starts to lose energy
  4. The direction of the DC current cannot be reversed.

These are the reasons why DC current is not used in homes and AC current is used.
