Solution
The War of Kalinga was one of the bloodiest wars fought ever
Though a much smaller state, Kalinga put up a stiff resistance till the very end.
The war killed about two lakh people, one lakh each from either side.
Although he won, the extent of destruction caused, numbed Ashoka and he blamed himself for the catastrophe.
He therefore, decided not to wage a war again because of the indescribable miseries it brought upon.
