Why did britain grow crops in india ?

The British grew crops in India because Indian soil was conducive for production of certain crops like Indigo, opium and cotton. The climate in India was also favourable for such crops. So, the farmers were forced to grow such crops. Moreover, these crops brought profit to the Britishers.
