In 1834, Maharaja Ranjit Singh sent a campaign against the Mazari tribe because the tribe had looted the Sikh areas and was continuing to do so. Ranjit Singh sent Kharak Singh to capture the area and they successfully did so. Later, Lord Auckland restrained the Maharaja from sending Kharak Singh for the second time due to the terms of a treaty with the Mazari tribe. This restrained Ranjit Singh from capturing Shikarpur and collecting the annual tax.
