Subsistence crisis prevailed in France due to the following reasons:
a. There was a rapid increase in population from 1715 to 1789 which led to the increase in the demand for food grains.
b. The production of grains could not keep pace with the rising population. This led to the increase in price of bread. The wages of workers increase which widened the gap between the rich and poor.
c. The bad weather conditions like hailstorm, droughts and other natural calamities would destroy the crops which again led to increase in the demand and prices of crops and created food shortage.
d.The increased taxation also made difficult for people to survive.
