The British felt that the Indian society was conservative, superstitious and backward. They felt the social practises like sati and child marriage to be unreasonable. So they passed laws to abolish them.They felt the need of English education in the Indian society which could rationalise the minds of Indians and broaden their outlook and thinking.Hence, the Britishers felt the need to transform Indian society.
