The ICC until 1965 (then Imperial Cricket Conference) was dominated by England and Australia, the countries that had founded the club. The name was changed to International Cricket Conference in 1965 because now several countries were members of the club. However, both these countries reserved their privileged positions until 1989.
It was only in 1989 that these two countries lost their privileged positions in the club, paving way for equal membership status for all the member countries.
