 Why did the traditional cotton te xtile industry of India receive a setback during the colonial period

Some of the reasons were:
The industrialization revolution in Britain resulted in high levels of production of cotton textiles there. In order to stop Indian export they imposed Heavy duties on the cotton textiles exported from India.This prevented their production from any set back.
The industrial made Cotton textiles of Britain flooded the Indian market decreasing the export to Britian of Indian cotton textile.
The machine made goods were cheaper than the goods made at homes by hands.
