Question

Why did water pipes burst in cold?

Open in App
Solution

  • Water contracts at high temperature and expands at low temperature.
  • In winters the temperature is less, so water expands but in summers the temperature is high, so water contracts.
  • In winter, when the temperature starts falling down and reaches 0oC, the density of water drops suddenly and water in pipelines expands causing them to burst.
