Why different kinds of plants have different kinds of roots?

The type or kind of root depends on the habitat or area where the plant is found. Depending on that there are two main types of roots – tap root and fibrous root.

Tap root – It consists of a single main root growing down with several branches coming out of it. It normally grows deep inside the soil. Plants like mango, peas etc has tap roots

Fibrous root – It grows by spreading widely inside the ground. It has no single main root. Plants like rice, wheat, grasses etc has fibrous roots.
