Question
Why dilution favours ionization?
Open in App
Solution
The extent of ionization is inversely proportional to the concentration of its solution. Thus the degree of ionization increases with dilution and at infinite dilution, it approaches unity and dissociation is said to be complete.

The degree of ionization does not depend upon dilution.
Q.
Assertion :On increasing dilution, the specific conductance keep on increasing. Reason: On increasing dilution, degree of ionization of weak electrolyte increases and mobility of ions also increases.
Q.
Assertion: At infinite dilution, both strong and weak electrolyte have degree of ionization equal to unity.
Reason: At infinite dilution of an electrolyte, the equivalent conductance of cations and anions are independent of each other.
