Question

why do apical meristem tissue lack vacuoles

Open in App
Solution

Vacuoles basically serve the purpose of storing of nutrients and excess salts etc. Meristematic cells do not need to store these nutrients as their function is to undergo mitosis for which there is a prominent nucleus and protoplasm. Once the cell differentiates to loose meristematic activity it develops vacuole.
