Question

Why do cold drinks bottles break when kept in freezer?

Open in App
Solution

Water has an amazing property, like other substances it contracts when cooled but only upto 4 degree Celsius after that on further cooling it starts expanding. When it reaches freezing point water expands nearly 9% whereas the cold drink bottles keep on contracting. Due to lack of space for the expanding in volume , the bottle breaks.
