Question

Why do covalent compounds exist as gases, liquids or soft solids?

Open in App
Solution

The covalent compounds are formed by sharing of electrons between the atoms that have similar electronegativities.

A covalent bond has overlapping of orbitals has less energy in the bond so atoms in a molecule have a weak force of attraction between them.

Hence the bonds are weak. they exist in gases, liquids, or soft solids
