Question

Why do desert snakes burrow deep into the sand during the day?

Open in App
Solution

Reason for deep burrows in the sand by snakes:

  1. Deserts are places with very high temperatures, less availability of water, and low vegetation, as most of the plants cannot survive in high temperatures and less water.
  2. Deserts are mostly covered with sand which heats up very quickly in the daytime and cools down at night.
  3. During the day, as the temperature rises, the sand heats up.
  4. Desert snakes burrow deep into the sand during the day because at that depth the sand is cooler than the surface.
