Question

Why do dipole -dipole forces cut off on boiling but covalent bond do not break on boiling?

Open in App
Solution

Hi,

On boiling the dipole-dipole forces cut off while covalent bond do not break because covalent bond is more stronger than the dipole-dipole forces of attraction.

The order of the relative strength of the bonds is :

Covalent bond > Dipole-dipole interaction > Hydrogen bonding > Vander waal forces.
