Why do dry apricot placed in salt solution do not swell while they do so when kept in water?????

Apricot in the salt solution does not swell, because the outersolution is hypertonic. The water moves from the hypotonic to the hypertonic solution. And that is why it swells in the water, becausewater is hypotonic than the inner apricot medium.
