Germination begins when a seed is supplied with water for non-dormant plants as soon as the temperature is suitable. Imbibition is a form of diffusion that causes water to move along a gradient of diffusion. Because of this method some dried and semi-dried matter absorbs water.Dry plant absorption of water is called imbibition. As seeds absorb water, they grow and hydrate enzymes and food supplies. Hydrated enzymes become active and the seed increases its metabolic activity to generate energy for the process of development. Furthermore, the water leads stress in the cells to rise and they can enlarge. As the seed absorbs water, the seed coat also losens due to which it can germinate easily as the radicle and plumule begin to grow.
