Question

Why do gases have low densities?

Open in App
Solution

Gases:

Gas is a state of matter made up of particles with neither a fixed volume nor a defined shape and the force of attraction between the particles is negligible.

Reasons for the gases having low densities are:

  1. Intermolecular gaps in gases are vast. In comparison to solids and liquids, the number of molecules per unit volume in gas is extremely low.
  2. As a result, their densities are low.
