Question

Why do gold and silver do not react with hydrochloric acid?

Open in App
Solution

Silverand gold does not react with HCl. This is because, like other reactive metals, they cannot displace hydrogen from HCl. Silver is below hydrogen in the reactivity series and thus cannot displace it. ... Well It reacts with HNO3(Nitric Acid) to give silver nitrate.
