Why do humans have four chambers and have double circulation ?
Four chambered heart in human being contains two auricles (left and right) and two ventricles (left and right). The left part of the heart contains oxygenated blood and the right part of the heart contains deoxygenated blood. Thus blood passes two times in one complete circuit – one with oxygenated blood and another with deoxygenated blood. This is double circulation. Double circulation system prevents mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood with each other.
Human are warm blooded. This warm body temperature helps to carry out body processes more efficiently. Maintaining the constant temperature inside the body requires huge amount of energy. Without double circulation system, humans would not be able to receive enough oxygen to produce adequate energy.
