Why do landslides occur in places where deforestation takes place?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student.

Damage to forests causes damage to various aspects of nature, and deforestation is a major cause of landslides and floods. Basically when forests are destroyed, the ability of trees and plants to absorb carbon is lost. Hence the carbon dioxide stored in the forest is released back into the atmosphere. Further when the forest has been removed and the when the area receives heavy rainfall the swamp starts being drained causing landslides. The organic substances oxidise or get immersed affecting the vegetation of the Forest.

Today, developed and developing countries utilize forests for living. Landslides and other calamities cause a negative effect on rapidly growing economies. Most developing countries that have the fastest-growing economic growth have been hit the most due to these landslides. So, loss of forest is loss of economic growth of the Country.
