Question

Why do legs and arms have tube like bones?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

The bones of arms and legs are long and composed of a shaft (diaphysis) with two flared ends (epipyhses). Diaphysis resembles a hollow-cylinder,made of compact bones which makes it resistant to bending and makes it light-weighted. The inner cavity of diaphysis is composed of yellow marrow that stores fat and it itself is surrounded by red-marrow( that makes red blood cells).

Regards.
