Why do metals not evolve hydrogen gas with nitric acid?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Metals donot evolve hydrogen gas with nitric acid. This is because nitric acid is a very strong oxidising agent. It oxidises the H2 gas evolved to H2O and itself gets reduced to any of the nitrogen oxides.
