why do mothers bllod and blood of foetus are not ever mixed

Open in App
Solution

The blood vessels of the foetus are being formed and as such will not be able to adjust to the pressure of the flowing blood in the blood vessels of the mother who is an adult. Thus, the delicate and fragile blood vessels of the foetus comes in close contact with that of the mother for diffusion of nutrients and respiratory gases but never open directly.
