Why do non metal are not rusted?

The general reaction is called Odidation that is metals reacting with oxygen to form oxide compounds. Rusting is specific name for oxidation of iron in environment. Non metals are mostly electronegative and so is oxygen and other gases in atmosphere. so they dont react with each other. Thus oxidation occurs only for metallic or electropositive compounds.
