Question

Why do only male gametes have a tail?

Open in App
Solution

The function of the tail in male gametes:

  1. Gametes are cells that aid in the reproduction process.
  2. Male gametes are referred to as sperms, while female gametes are referred to as eggs.
  3. Sperms have tails and are mobile.
  4. The tail allows them to move from male to female bodies.
  5. They have been designed to travel and reach up to the egg in order to fertilize it.
  6. Because female gametes are immobile, to complete the fertilization process, a motile male gamete is required.
  7. As a result, only male gametes can move and have a tail.
