Why do our ears ache when we travel by an aeroplane?

When we travel by an aeroplane, there is a change in the air pressure around us. When the aeroplane lands, air pressure around us increases with decrease in the height. This increase in the pressure affects the eardrums so our ears ache when we travel by an aeroplane.
