Question

Why do plants need ribosomes?

Open in App
Solution

Ribosomes:

  1. Ribosomes are specialized cell organelles and are found in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
  2. Every living cell requires ribosomes for the production of proteins.
  3. The process of protein synthesis is a primary function, which is performed by all living cells.

Plants need ribosomes:

  1. Plant cells are eukaryotic cells found in green plants, which undergo photosynthesis.
  2. All the cells including plant cells require ribosomes for protein synthesis.
  3. They bind to a messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) and decode the information delivered by the mRNA's nucleotide sequence.
  4. At the acceptor site, transfer RNAs (tRNAs) containing amino acids enter the ribosome
  5. It binds to tRNA and adds amino acids to the developing protein chain.
  6. They are involved in the translation of mRNA to polypeptide chains.
