Question

Why do protons don't move?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
protons are in the nucleas of the atom, and they are held by strong nuclear force, strongest of the fundamental forces you've learned so far. Also atoms are held by interatomic forces. So for a positive charge or proton to move means a nucleas of an atom to move, which means the atom itself has to move. This require large amount of energy. Hence, protons don't move. This is why electricity is the flow of electrons but not protons. However, positive charge does move as alpha particle and so on which you will learn in higher classes.
Thank you.
