Question

Why do solids conduct heat better than liquid and liquid conduct heat better than gases ?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Solids conduct heat better than liquids and gases because the microscopic particles are very close to each other (so close that they are in constant contact with each other) and hence the transfer of energy due to collision from one particle to another becomes easier, which becomes tedious in liquids and gases because the particle being comparatively far away have to travel the distance for the collision to take place. Due to same reason liquid are better conductor than gases.
