Why do the component colours of incidet white light split into a spectrum while passing through a glass prism?

Solution

It is because different colours have different wavelengths and the more wavelength a colour has , the less it bends.So, the seven colours bend by different amounts due to the difference in their wavelengths and so different colours get separated.
