Why do the elements of the same group show identical property? Explain.

  1. Groups: The elements that are arranged in a column from top to bottom form a group.
  2. Elements that have similar physical and chemical properties are placed in a group. They show identical behavior because they all have the same number of valence electrons in their outermost shell and these valence electrons enter into the same subshell of different shells.
  3. Valence electrons in an element decide the reactivity, chemical properties, and the nature of the compounds formed by an element.
