Question

Why do the non-polar covalent compounds not conduct electricity?

Open in App
Solution

1.Non-polar compounds : The compounds formed by the sharing of electrons between two similar electronegative atoms and are the covalent compounds held by weak Vanderwaal's forces or dispersion forces and exist as amorphous solids.

2.Covalent compounds when dissolved in water do not produce any ions. Hence, covalent compounds or non-polar compounds are bad conductors of electricity.

Example: Glucose.
