Closure of eyes when flashed with strong light is due to the reason:
When stronger light rays reach the eye, the iris responds by constricting the pupil, thus protecting the retina and helping it process the incoming image better.
The opposite occurs in low light when the iris dilates the pupil to allow as much light in as possible.
When a flash of strong light enters the eyes then they automatically close because of the action of the blink reflex of the eyes.
The rod cells control light in the low visibility zone and the cone cells control the amount of light entering at the high visibility area.
