A mixture created from the mixing of two or more metals or a metal and a non-metal is referred to as an alloy. Combinations of metals and other elements can also be used to create alloys. The properties of alloys are frequently dissimilar to the qualities of their constituent components. When compared to pure metals, alloys frequently have greater strength and hardness. Red gold, which is made by combining Copper $\left(\mathrm{Cu}\right)$ and Gold $\left(\mathrm{Au}\right)$, is an example of an alloy. White gold, which is made by combining Silver $\left(\mathrm{Ag}\right)$ and Gold $\left(\mathrm{Au}\right)$, is another major gold alloy.

There are many applications of alloys out of which two main applications are:

1. For making coins we use alloys.
2. For the constructions of airplanes and ships.
