Why do we name the structure as phenyldichloro''methane''.
Why is it methane?

Solution

Because in Cyclic structure , the function group is Phenyl and the two chlorine atoms are present in the Methane. (-CHCl2)

Hence it is not a Methyl Group(-CH3). Hence we dont use methyl.
