Solution
Meiosis:
Meiosis refers to reductional cell division in which a diploid cell is divided to form four haploid cells.
The meiosis process occurs in two stages - meiosis I and meiosis II.
In meiosis I, the DNA is duplicated and separated into two daughter cells.
In meiosis II, the alleles of a gene are separated to give rise to four haploid cells.
It is a crucial process that ensures the offsprings possess the same number of chromosomes as the parent.
It also helps introduce genetic variations as a result of recombination.
Meiosis gives rise to new combinations of traits.
